I grew up here in Houston and I have always known Methodist Hospital to have a stellar reputation, so I was very surprised at the extremely poor level of care that my stepfather received while he was there. When you come out of the hospital, you should be feeling better than you did when you went in.My stepfather was unbelievably worse after six days at Methodist Willowbrook. He went in with a UTI and kidney issues. He was 89 years old, and before the UTI, he was able to ride his stationary bike for 30 minutes a day and hold conversation with me although he suffered from dementia. After his time at Methodist, he was unable to get out of bed, swallow his food or speak for himself. During that six days, our calls regarding his condition were never answered. Because of Covid-19, we were unable to go in ourselves to see how he was doing and with no communication from the hospital or the doctor, we were frantic. Because of his dementia, he needed someone who could monitor his care and speak for him, but he was not allowed to even have a family member visit. We couldn’t even find out who the doctor was that was supposedly caring for him! Finally, we were able to get through and speak with one of his nurses. She said that she would have to call back, but never did. When he was released, we received no paperwork or anything that detailed what happened while he was there for the six days. He was released to a rehab hospital, and then we finally were contacted about his condition, not by Methodist Hospital, but by concerned doctors at the rehab. Only then were we able to get some details about his hospital visit, including his doctor’s name. When we called this doctor, he was in absolutely no hurry to speak with us. We waited hours for a return call. Long story short, every single thing about this experience was a huge disappointment. My stepfather passed away on Friday and I am convinced it was because of the poor care he received at Methodist Hospital. I would give them zero stars because there was nothing about our experience with them that was good. I don’t know how someone can go in for a UTI, stay for six days and pass away a week later. Shaking my head.......
