Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital is a 204-bed teaching hospital located in Darby, Pa., offering advanced acute care services in Delaware County and Southwest Philadelphia. Built in part thanks to property willed by local philanthropist Thomas M. Fitzgerald, the hospital opened on July 1, 1933. During its 85-year history, the hospital has been recognized for innovative milestones in the field of medicine and patient care. It was the first to introduce a hospital-administered Home Care Program in 1969 and one of the first to provide paramedic services in the early 1980s. More recently, the hospital was the first in the County to install a 64-Slice CT scanner.
