Overview

About Dr. Bowling

Nadia Bowling is Palestinian-American who was born in Chicago, IL where she spent her formative years. However, when she was younger her family moved to the West Bank, Palestine where she witnessed significant health-care disparities. Her interest in medicine grew from her passion for biology and determination to work with people. As a general neurologist with a special interest in seizure disorders, she enjoys the diverse, complex nature of the specialty and the ability to provide answers to her patients’ complicated questions.

She chose to practice in South Bend because it felt like the right place for her and her family. While traveling to South Bend for her interview at Beacon, she and her husband had to take their toddler to the Beacon MedPoint Urgent Care. That experience made her decision so much easier. “I knew that Beacon was the kind of hospital I wanted to work for because my experience as the mother of a patient was so exceptional.”

It’s a feeling Dr. Bowling brings to her own practice philosophy. “I always focus on patient autonomy,” she explains. “As a physician, it is my job to educate, guide and inform my patients to help them make the best decision for their health. Each patient is an individual, and they deserve the support and respect to make the choices that work best for them.”

“For me,” Dr. Bowling says, “I feel the most fun part of my job is learning about people and having the privilege to hear their stories. I love stories, and I feel so honored when people feel comfortable sharing theirs with me.”

In Her Own Words

Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? My mother is my biggest role model. She is dedicated to raising her family and supporting her children’s goals. She taught me to show kindness and compassion towards people which is so important as a physician.

What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? My first job was in college. I was a laboratory assistant which was a lot of fun because I had the opportunity to help teach biology and chemistry to other students.

What is your favorite food? Movie? What was your best/ worst subjects in school growing up? Best subject was biology, and the worst subject was economics. Favorite food is macaroni and cheese. Favorite movie is probably the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Probably with my husband, because we haven’t had much time off together to go and have dinner together!

In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? What are your hobbies, interests? Baking, cooking and going on walks.

What is something most people don’t know about you? I love to dance and sing!
