Ekokobe Fonkem, DO, is the director of neuro-oncology and an associate professor in the Department of Neurology at Barrow Neurological Institute. He is board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Fonkem’s expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Medical Association, the American Osteopathic Association, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Society for Neuro-Oncology.

Dr. Fonkem earned his medical degree from the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine at Ohio University in Athens. He completed his neurology residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus and a fellowship in neuro-oncology at Harvard Medical School Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Dr. Fonkem’s research interests include brain tumor biomarkers in blood and saliva, new drug treatments for brain cancer, vulnerable populations with brain cancer, global oncology, and quality-of-life challenges in people with brain tumors.
