Here are Four Ways to Stay Active Without a Gym Membership

If being more active is something you are striving for in 2019, then you may be wondering if it’s necessary to have a gym membership. The good news is that online fitness communities, workout videos, and just having access to getting outside and exercising, makes not needing a gym membership so much easier!

There are so many outside resources to staying in shape that you absolutely do not need to spend money on a gym membership to stay in shape, and here’s how you can get started.

4 Ways to Stay Active Without a Gym Membership

#1 Online Fitness Classes: There are so many online fitness classes that you definitely do not have to have a gym membership in order to join a fitness class! The great thing about these online fitness classes is that often times they are free, and if you get bored of one type of class, you can choose another. Make an effort to pick a handful of online workout videos and try different ones until you find the ones you enjoy the best and feel like you could stick to long term.

#2 Walking: Walking is the best form of exercise anyone can include in their lifestyle, and, it’s free! Not only that, but it’s low impact, so many people can enjoy the benefit of walking each day. Try getting outside and walking every day to reach at least 10,000 steps, and if it’s too cold or the weather just doesn’t permit, get on a treadmill if you have one available, or go walking around your local mall! It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, you just have to walk, that’s all there is to it! And, when all else fails, grab your dog and go for a walk around the block. No matter how you have to motivate yourself, getting a daily walk-in will help you feel so much better both physically and mentally.

#3 Use What You Have: If you don’t have a specific area in your house that you can dedicate to exercise, don’t use this as your excuse not to move your body! A lot of your gear can be simply stored in one of those athlete bags. Getting active doesn’t require a ton of space at all. Simply use what you have and make the most of it. Maybe you only have a little corner in your room. That’s ok, move a table out of the way, or put down a yoga mat in your kitchen and make that your exercise spot. Just use what you have and press play on that workout video!

#4 Do Some Yoga: Invest in a yoga mat, and do some yoga at home! You can either do your own yoga routine if you are familiar with yoga, or you can press play on a yoga video online. All you need is a yoga mat and a bottle of water, and you can get an excellent workout in to support both your mind and body without having to go to the gym.

Staying active without a gym membership is easy and doesn’t cost a thing! If you could choose anything on this list, choose a daily walk! It’s an excellent way to stay in great cardiovascular shape, and it’s low impact, so you don’t have to worry about overextending yourself.

Make this year the year you stop making an excuse as to why you can’t stay active, and get out there and move! Remember that small daily efforts are the key to making a lifestyle change, so start today for a healthier tomorrow.
