It might not have been the brisk Winter we were expecting in 2019, but the cold weather has still had a major effect on our skin. Regardless of the amount of lotion we try to apply to our skin, when the chilly winds and gusty rain hits our face the harshness leaves our skin looking lifeless. Where the real solution lies is right through your diet and not your skincare regime. Certain anti-oxidants and nutrients in foods can leave your skin looking plump and smooth and we feel these are ones that you should definitely consider.
For a rich source in vitamin C, you’re sure to get it from carrots. It contains the antioxidant that increases the production of collagen which helps to maintain the elasticity of the skin and prevents it from becoming dry and thick.
As well as vitamin C, carrots also contain vitamin A which is another antioxidant. This helps to prevent the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines due to the qualities that it has in tackling skin-damaging free radicals.
Beetroot isn’t for everyone, but it’s a great source for keeping skin healthy and glowing. Drinking beetroot juice, in particular, can eliminate toxins in the skin that can normally damage it. What’s a great use of beetroot is that you can also apply it to the skin directly, which can rid certain dead skin cells to create a vibrant appearance to your skin.
This might bring back some nightmares of when you were a child and your parents used to force you to eat your greens on the plate. Well, now you’ll be more eager than ever to get them down you as there are many leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale that are filled with vitamin K and anti-inflammatory properties. They also contain high amounts of sulphur which is known to reduce redness and flaking of the skin.
Another green on the menu is broccoli. The reason being is it has many qualities of vitamins and minerals that can help to get your skin glowing just in time for Summer. It’s also a great ingredient to use in a variety of ways including steaming it on the side of your lunch or blending it for a morning smoothie.
For a juicy and summery ingredient that can satisfy your taste buds, consider including berries into your diet if you haven’t already. Similar to carrots, berries contain antioxidants that help to fight them annoying free radicals that cause wrinkles and fine lines. You can use them in healthy desserts, in fruit smoothies or even as a snack during the day.
Where most people think that their skin routine is working wonders for their appearance, it’s what’s on the inside that counts the most when it comes to the appearance of your skin. These foods can compliment heart-healthy fats such as seeds, nuts and fish for the ideal meal. In some cases, people may even resort to health supplements such as fish oil capsules, vitamin C tablets and more but including these foods more often in your diet will have your skin prime and ready for the scorching Summer that awaits.
