The hemorrhoids, also known as piles occur due to the inflammation of rectal and anal veins. Piles usually develop due to excessive strain during defecation. However, chronic constipation, pregnancy, anal intercourse, aging, and diarrhea are different other contributory disease conditions. There are two sets of veins involve in blood transportation in the anorectal region. Piles can be external or internal depending upon the site of the affected veins. External piles are easily visible, but internal piles are only felt and visible in an advanced stage. The symptoms of piles include pain, inflammation, anal itching, discomfort, and rectal bleeding. Dietary and lifestyle modification

It has been often observed that dietary compromise and poor lifestyle leads to chronic constipation or frequent diarrhea. Both of these conditions trigger or aggravate piles. Medical experts also recommend dietary management by consuming a high fiber diet and a healthy lifestyle along with conventional treatment to prevent and cure piles. Sufficient fluid intake, high fiber diet, and regular exercise are very effective to treat and prevent piles. A meta-analysis report described that fiber supplement relieves piles symptoms and minimize the rectal bleeding risk by almost 50%. Moreover, the clinician also suggest regular exercise, a regular habit to sit in the toilet for sufficient time, avoid straining during defecation, evade to intake medication which causes constipation or diarrhea.

Some homeopathic medicines including sulfur, Nux vomica, Calcarea phosphorica, Natrum muriaticum are used to treat piles. Usually, at the initial stage, piles patients are reluctant and ignorant which results in increasing the severity of the condition. Following are some cost-effective useful home remedies that helps to alleviate piles symptoms and prevent severity.

  • Strain during defecation often aggravates piles. Ispaghula husk is a natural bulk laxative and prevents constipation and excess strain. Daily consumption of Ispaghula husk relief piles.
  • Sitz bath helps to reduce piles related discomfort and pain. The patient needs to sit in a warm water tub for 15 minutes after defecation. This process has to be repeated several times a day to get relief from painful piles.
  • Mix yogurt and black mustard seeds powder in a bowl. Then chew properly before swallow the whole mixture. Along with it, drink a glass of buttermilk.
  • Take some pomegranate peels and soak them in a bowl of water. After 6 hours, boil the whole content in low flame. Put off the flame and strain the mixture. Set aside for a certain period of time to cool down the mixture. Take this concoction twice a day to improve piles.
  • Take a glass of cow milk and add some peppercorns, rock salt crystals, and ginger thin slices. Ingest this buttermilk two times a day.
  • Aesculus hippocastanum is commonly known as Horse-chestnut. Aescin is a saponin group of the bioactive constituent present in Horse-chestnut. Aescin has a potent anti-inflammatory effect, it prevents edema and also improves vein health due to its venotonic actions. Consumption of Horse-chestnut extract strengthen vein and improves vascular tone in vein walls, and effective to treat piles.
  • Keep 250ml goat milk overnight for curdling and next morning blend it with an equal quantity of carrot juice and drink it to treat bleeding piles.
  • Local application of white radish juice and honey mixture is effective to treat piles.
  • Blend a cup of milk with ripe banana mash. Ingest this mixture three to four times in a day to reduce piles associated pain symptom.
  • Take a glass of water and add 3 to 4 figs in it. Keep it for overnight. Take soaked figs and the liquid content on an empty stomach in the next morning.
  • Topical application of crushed onions helps to treat painful piles.
  • Preparing a juice of two teaspoonfuls of bitter gourd leaves with a glass buttermilk and taking it in an empty stomach is also helpful to treat piles.
  • Shade-dried mango seeds are powdered and consuming it with 1.5 to 2 g with honey twice a day help to treat piles.
  • Regular practice of bow pose and cobra pose yoga practice help to treat and prevent piles.
